Students in the SLIS Online Masters Program begin their studies with a week in residence in Madison, WI in August.
Bootcamp for students admitted for Fall 2017 is August 7 – 10, 2017
To make a room reservation, go directly to the University Housing reservation page. Scroll to “SLIS Online Masters Students’ Bootcamp”. After clicking Register you will be prompted to sign in to Iris to make your reservation. This is necessary to make your reservation – you may either create a new Iris account, or sign in with an existing account such as Facebook or Google. Registration is open April 11 – July 20th.
Parking passes for the Bootcamp week can be purchased for an additional fee – see UW Parking Information.
During Bootcamp, new distance students will meet their classmates, and some SLIS faculty and staff. Some topics that will be covered during Bootcamp:
An overview of the SLIS curriculum;
Introduction to your first two classes, LIS 601 & 602;
How to use CANVAS – the courseware used to deliver distance courses;
Instruction on UW-Madison library resources, such as research databases and citation managers;
Student-created poster presentations about their practicum placements;
Complete the Technology Competency Survey – to insure that all students have basic technology skills
