Students in the SLIS Online Masters Program begin their studies with a week in residence in Madison, WI in August.
Bootcamp for students admitted for Fall 2016 is August 1 – 4, 2016
Lodging for Bootcamp is arranged through University Housing, Conference Services, in Ogg Hall (see amenities). To see rates and policies, and make a room reservation, go directly to the University Housing reservation page.
Reservations for lodging are open until July 14 – scroll down until you see SLIS Distance Education, and press the red “Register” button. Parking passes for the Bootcamp week can be purchased for an additional fee – see UW Parking Information. During Bootcamp, new distance students will meet their classmates, and some SLIS faculty and staff. Some topics that will be covered during Bootcamp:
An overview of the SLIS curriculum;
Introduction to your first two classes, LIS 601 & 602;
How to use Learn@UW and CANVAS – the courseware used to deliver distance courses;
Instruction on UW-Madison library resources, such as research databases and citation managers;
Student-created poster presentations about their practicum placements;
Complete the Technology Competency Survey – to insure that all students have basic technology skills
